Tell Governor Shapiro: Enact No-Drill Zones Now!

Now more than ever, we need strong regulations that establish a statewide, protective, no-drill zone rule.

Here's our letter to Governor Shapiro:

Dear Governor Shapiro,

The closeness of fracking and related infrastructure to our homes, schools, hospitals, streams, and other public resources threatens people’s health and these resources. Numerous studies have established that living near fracking exposes residents to unsafe levels of pollution linked to cancer, asthma, heart problems, preterm birth, birth defects, and other serious health problems.

The 43rd Statewide Investigating Grand Jury recommended a 2,500 foot no-drill zone between fracking and homes, as well as a 5,000 foot no-drill zone for sensitive sites such as schools and hospitals. Polling has shown that 74% of responding Pennsylvania residents support increased no-drill zones for fracking infrastructure from residential buildings, schools, and hospitals.

I strongly urge you to institute a statewide no-drill zone rule, at distances at least as far as those recommended in the Grand Jury report around homes and sensitive sites such as schools and hospitals, as well as no-drill zones around streams.
