The Trump EPA wants to stop factoring public health benefits into how it evaluates air pollution rules. This is not a technical tweak or a simple accounting change. It is a deliberate effort to rig the system in favor of polluters by counting industry compliance costs in full while erasing the real, measurable benefits of clean air to people’s lives.

By stripping public health from regulatory analysis, the EPA would make it easier to repeal protections, weaken safeguards, and justify inaction, all while claiming “efficiency” and “cost savings” for industry. The result: more pollution, more illness, and more preventable deaths.

Communities living near oil and gas operations, refineries, petrochemical facilities, power plants, and mining sites already carry disproportionate exposure and harm.
