Don’t let Trump expand LNG exports

In the midst of a war, soaring gas prices, and a cost of living crisis, the Trump Administration is claiming that building a huge floating LNG export terminal in Matagorda, Texas – called ST LNG – won’t devastate the surrounding community, consumers, and the climate. They couldn’t be more wrong.

The impacts from LNG projects like ST LNG are bad for communities, the country, and the climate. Trump's agencies must respond to this reality. We’re already paying a big price right now on the Texas coast — and in households across the country. Submit your comment to the Maritime Administration now.

Impacts and Alternatives

Increasing Costs: Exporting more LNG means gas prices will continue to rise. The Maritime Administration should evaluate how ST LNG will increase energy prices for consumers.

Climate Change: The expansion of LNG is a major threat to the climate, yet climate change is not mentioned in the draft environmental impact statement. The Maritime Administration should include how 30+ years of greenhouse gas emissions from building and operating ST LNG would cause even more extreme heat, flooding, severe storms, and drought.

Cumulative Impacts: Matagorda already experiences significant air and water pollution from industrial activity that is negatively impacting the traditions and livelihoods of the Texas Coast. The Maritime Administration should address how the impacts from another fossil fuel project would impact the health and safety of a community already under stress.

Alternative: Companies like ST LNG should move away from fossil fuels so we can breathe clean air, drink safe water, have reliable, affordable energy, and prevent disasters before they happen.
